Weekly News Rundown

Google has introduced SynthID, which can add an invisible watermark to AI-generated images and later detect this watermark to distinguish them from human-created images, helping combat the spread of AI-generated misinformation. It's currently limited to images created with Google's Imagen tool.

OpenAI has shared examples of educators using ChatGPT in their classrooms for various purposes, such as debate role-play, translation assistance, and fact-checking, encouraging more teachers to do the same. It also provides sample prompts to help teachers integrate ChatGPT into their lessons.

Google is enhancing its Search Generative Experience by listing all sources used for AI-powered search summaries in thumbnails and allowing users to click on sources to visit associated websites.

Amazon One, combines biometrics, optical engineering, generative AI, and machine learning, allows customers to use their palm for activities like payments, loyalty cards, age verification, and venue access, eliminating the need for wallets. The system recognizes the unique patterns and veins in a user's palm, converting it into a unique numerical vector linked to their credit card or Amazon account. When Will AI Reach Human-Level Performance?

As part of its most recent AI market report, McKinsey conducted research on how long it will take for generative AI to reach human-level performance. Here are the results:

For most of the technical capabilities shown in this chart, generative AI will perform at a median level of human performance by the end of this decade. And its performance will compete with the top 25% of people completing any and all of these tasks before 2040. In some cases, that’s 40 years faster than experts previously thought.
